Mr Greville Farrar

Mr Greville Farrar has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Leighton Hospital since 2015, specialising in knee surgery, sports injuries and lower limb joint replacement. He looks after patients with complex knee injuries, those looking for joint preservation surgery and performs large numbers of joint replacements.

His practice involves the assessment and management of sports injuries and in particular ligament injuries of the knee, and peri-articular fractures. He frequently offers second opinions for patients who have early onset arthritis or malalignment, and helps patients understand if they may be suitable for joint preservation surgery, uni-compartmental (partial) knee replacement or patello-femoral knee replacement.

Mr Farrar has performed well over 1,000 joint replacements and 6000 orthopaedic operations. Within his NHS practice, he operates on all patients suitable for osteotomy or patello-femoral joint replacement. He’s regularly in contact with colleagues in sports clubs to offer advice and surgery for injuries as required.

He is the Trauma Lead for orthopaedics at his NHS base hospital and has helped to develop the service for partial joint replacement and osteotomy surgery.

Mr Greville Farrar, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Since joining the Trust in 2015, he has maintained a continuous programme of outcome monitoring for their hip and knee replacement service. This has formed an integral part of monthly meetings and has helped to drive standards and reduce the incidence of complications during this period.

He is fortunate to work in a fantastic department, with colleagues who are hugely committed to quality improvement and the training of new surgeons. They have been recognised regionally as the training hospital of the year for the last three years running, and have been shortlisted individually for the trainer of the year award in two of the last three years. Mr Farrar has also had the opportunity to train surgeons who have gone on to establish successful practices abroad. His work with trainees injects the joy and challenge into his practice, driving his own standards and promoting reflective, evidence-based care.

Dr Anil Kumar

Dr Kumar has worked with Mr Farrar for several years, both within the NHS and in the private sector. He has established good working practices and relationships at Spire Cheshire Hospital, and this has proved to be hugely beneficial for orthopaedic patients and their recoveries. Patients can be reassured that in his regular NHS practice, he looks after and anaesthetises patients undergoing complex surgery for major trauma and emergency situations. This ensures that his expertise is maintained to a very high standard.
